Club Thursday
We are excited to announce the return of CLUB THURSDAY for the month of March. Club Thursday provides after school activities where students come to make new friends, learn new skills and make connections to DPMS. We meet on Thursdays from 2:45-3:30 pm. Students are required to arrange their own transportation home from the activity.  Please sign up for only one activity per week.  This ensures that we have spots available for as many student's as possible.

This Thursday, 3/30, we will be having 4 activities:
Tissue Paper Votives
Orange Julius
Games
Cross Country

If you are interested in having your student participate, please have your student come by the Student Center to pick up a pass. Questions, call the DPMS Student Center 801.826.6920

2022-23 Student Center Information

Welcome to Draper Park Middle School! We hope you are as excited about the new year as we are! Schedules are available via Skyward after you have completed the online district registration and paid your fees.  Below is general information if you have questions.

New Students
If you are a new student inquiring about your schedule, we will email when it is finished. You will need to go to Skyward and complete the district online registration and pay fees before viewing your schedule.

Schedule Changes
Schedule Change Requests were taken August 2-4th. If you are missing a period or an intervention class, we will add you to the virtual line and get to you as soon as we can. Missing classes will take priority over team change requests. We want everyone to have a full schedule.

If you are wanting to drop a required class (Core class, CCA, Digital Studies, or Health), the only option is to drop it for educational release. We take registration in the spring and base our hiring and class size on those requests. Earlier (in February/May), you could request to drop out of a required class for an elective. At this point, we have hired teachers and based our "master schedule" on those requests. If we were to do that now, we would not have elective classes for new students. (We generally get 60-100 new students each year.)

TEAM Changes
Please know, teams are currently balanced. Waitlists were kept through August 8th. We are not changing teams at this time.

Educational Release
If you are wanting to take educational release, you need to fill out the request at http://releases.canyonsdistrict.org. We will do our best to put these in on a daily basis. It is not done automatically. We have to review schedules and find another spot for the class that was in the period where educational release is being requested. Not all educational releases will be able to be fulfilled at this point.

If you are wanting to stop your educational release, we will add you to the "virtual wait list" and take that request in order that we receive them.

Honors Classes
If you are inquiring about 6th grade honors, please know that the honors program is offered in math and Language Arts. Students may self-select into an honors program during the first week of school. The honors program is an extension from the regular class and is available through Canvas. It provides additional activities to the district curriculum. It is not a specific class or section. If you want an honors classes in 7th or 8th grade, this is a schedule change and it will be put on the wait list for availability.

Lockers
Lockers can be a little tricky to open. Watch the video found here https://youtu.be/Z3iKmABXsXY before coming to school.

Educational Release

What is an Educational Release?
Education Release periods are designed to facilitate a parent’s desire to allow their student to participate in Released-Time activity from public school in accordance with USBE R277-610.  A parent may request Released-Time for reasons ranging from academic to non-academic and must offer an explanatory note for non-academic activities. Please note that an Educational Release is a schedule change. For forms filled out for the current school year, when you have finished filling out the district form (button below), you will need to contact your school counselor to determine if it is possible after school has started.

Teaming

Draper Park Middle School uses a "teaming" approach to learning. Students who are on the same team have the same English, Math, Science and Social Studies teacher. It creates a "school within a school" for students and teachers to work together.

Please look at your Science teacher to determine your team:

6th Grade
  • Seaborn -- Team Jord
  • Abercrombie -- Team Sol
  • Mills -- Team Mani

7th Grade
  • Stenten-- Team Freyr
  • Clark-- Team Thor
  • Nuetzel-- Team Freyja
  • Valdez-- Team Odin

8th Grade
  • Paucarpura-- Team Heimdall
  • Suhr -- Team Njord
  • Muir-- Team Loki
  • Valdez-- Team Odin
